I’ve spent the day wandering around the picturesque Sydney Harbour and CBD. Usually crowded 7 days a week with locals and tourists alike, there is something beautiful in the the quiet peacefulness during the time of Covid 19.
As Sydney looks to transition to โOpening Up” over the next few months I think its been a unique opportunity to document what hopefully ends up as a once in a lifetime event, a quiet Sydney in black and white.
Will post photos in colour over the next few days with context about where these were taken for those not familiar with my hometown.

Amazing, can I ask what software you use to edit your photos, I am hoping to edit some of my own photos and I am bewildered as to which program I could use ahaha.

Sure thing for these I used Photo Shop Express, it’s a free program. Snapseed is a another good app

These images bring up memories of Neville Shute’s book “On the Beach”, a post apocalyptic novel, in which everyone died of radiation poisoning – even in places where the nuclear bombs were ot dropped. Infrastructure remains, people gone.

The first time I ever heard Waltzing Matilda was the movie On The Beach. I was a kid in NYC, who knew. To this day I still think it is one of the most haunting and beautiful melodies.

A lot of people here want to change that tune to our National Anthem. It’s considered the national song even if it it isn’t.

Like a post Apocalyptic ghost town, Dave. I recall many of those places from my 2012 trip to Sydney and it was hard to find a shot without a crowd in ot at any time of day. Thanks for sharing. Allan

Cheers Allan, it’s impossible to visit these places without people about. Martin Place is the Central Business area and there was no one. I’m enjoying the quiet and making the most of it. It will change in the next few months. Hope your doing well

These photos are hauntingly beautiful. It feels so different to see the Sydney Opera House without any people. Great photos!

I like the way you are not afraid to mix up the different types of monochrome in a single post. With articles containing many images I tend to do the same thing, I just donโt see it very often…I probably wouldnโt do it in my color work, but thatโs personal taste. ๐

Wow! Keep forgetting it’s not just here in CA. Some beaches are still closed, they’re slowly opening things up in stages.

Our beaches are starting to open for exercise, all the different states here are treating the situation differently. Fortunately it looks like we are getting on top of the virus now. Stay safe ๐

That’s how it is here too, the odd thing is California is the most liberal yet has been in the longest shelter in place. So far my family is still fine and son just went back to work yesterday. Cheers & stay safe too!!

Very cool pictures! Love that it lends itself to the moodiness of the overall situation. That first shot with the bridge and the bench lead your eye right to the opera house…fantastic!

Thank you it was the mood I was going for. My favourite shot being at the steps of the Opera House and so much space to the left but nobody in frame. That’s virtually impossible to take a photo like that in normal circumstances. Thanks for the feedback ๐
