    You should have seen Budapest in the mid- to late ’90s. Vaci was only one story high clean. There were feral dogs everywhere. No one– and I mean no one outside of University– spoke English or German. The Market had honest to God handcrafted stuff that didn’t all look alike. and at Lila Akac you could get the best dinner for two– full on several courses with appropriate beverages and dessert for under 10 US.

    We traveled there from the mid-90s into the mid ’00s at least once a year. And then again last year. I will always count having had the experience of watching Budapest change as one of the highlights of my life.
